Rock star Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler have lost a sexual discrimination case for wrongfully dismissing their former chef, Jane Martin. A British employment tribunal ordered them to pay $50,000 compensation to the 41-year-old chef from Winchester.

Jane Martin cooked for Sting and his family at their country estate in England for almost eight years. She also often prepared meals this celebrity couple’s guests, including Madonna and Elton John. She filed a claim in July 2006 saying that she had been sacked by Trudie Styler after she became pregnant.

The tribunal ruled that Jane Martin had been unlawfully dismissed by her employer and had been a victim of sexual discrimination. The compensation of $50,000 included injury to hurt feelings and loss of earnings.

However, Sting and Trudie Styler are to appeal against the ruling.
