Advice and Guide
Mulberry is a British design company renowned world-wide for its craftsmanship and quality. The brand’s backbone is an extensive line of luxury bags for men and women that combine stylish, stand-out design with the finest leathers and detailing
Nowadays handbag is no longer just a carry-all necessity and keeping women’s secret. It plays a more important role in every fashion season and each bag has an overt personality too. They are status identification. Like your pets, they also come with names, “ladylike”, “rocker”, “vintage”… it is not just about what and where the logo is but more of whether it is the IT bag of the season.
Hermes has its Birkin, Chloe has the Paddington and now, Edith, and last year Mulberry – the established British leatherwear label whose design director Stuart Vevers won Accessory Designer of the Year from the British Fashion Council – made the Roxanne a practical bag with Signature Rivers and big pockets.
Mulberry’s look has always been classic 1970’s and British, but with Vevers’s involvement, the brand has recently and rapidly revived itself from the brink of bankruptcy. Vevers worked for Calvin Klein, Givenchy, Botegga Veneta and Louis Vuitton before becoming the creative director for Mulberry in 2005. “Classic became a dirty word for a while in fashion, but now it’s back. Mulberry’s classic and I’m really proud of that element,” says Vevers.
To push the brand forward, for the Spring/Summer 2007 collection, Vevers continues his winning style with new shapes, colours and leather finishes across a whole new range of designs. The elements of his collection for this new season are also much more defined. With three newly-opened stores in America, it draws its inspiration from the classy uptown and the highly-spirited downtown woman.
The Darwin leather bags are clearly developed for the downtown woman who is individualistic, fashionable and enjoy an organic lifestyle. The iconic styles of the past stood the test of time and are appearing again this season in oak, chocolate, black and a new vanilla shade.
